Siemens will supply Electromin, the e-mobility unit of Saudi Arabia with electric vehicle (EV) chargers for the company’s planned development of a kingdom and region wide charging network.

The agreement will ensure supply of Siemens’ advanced infrastructure technology to Electromin including the ultra-fast Sicharge D chargers. Electromin is also developing an app for consumers that will allow users to locate public charges, plan routes and make payments.

“Electromin’s eMaaS solutions are contributing to the development of the Saudi EV ecosystem, and this partnership with Siemens will allow us to provide the charging infrastructure and technology necessary to boost adoption of EVs in the kingdom,” said Kalyana Sivagnanam, Group CEO of Petromin Corporation and CEO Electromin.

“The rollout of EV charging points across Saudi Arabia is our first phase of a significant national strategy that extends to 2030 and beyond,” he added.

Earlier this month, PIF Governor Yasir Al-Rumayyan said that Saudi Arabia is planning to build 328,000 electric cars per year. Speaking at the Saudi Green Initiative forum in Sharm El-Sheikh, Egypt, Al-Rumayyan was elaborating on the investment made by the wealth fund into the emerging market for electric vehicles.

Last week, Saudi Arabia’s electric car firm Ceer has appointed former General Motors exec James DeLuca as the company’s CEO. Ceer is a joint venture between the Public Investment Fund (PIF) and Foxconn and is projected to contribute $8bn to Saudi Arabia’s GDP by 2034.

It will manufacture vehicles in Saudi Arabia. Each vehicle will be designed and manufactured in Saudi Arabia and tested to the highest global automotive quality control and safety standards. Ceer vehicles are scheduled to be available in 2025.
