Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, deputy premier, minister of defense, and chairman of the Council of Economic and Development Affairs (CEDA), launched the National Gaming and Esports Strategy.
The strategy contributes in achieving Vision 2030 objectives to “diversify the economy, create new jobs in various sectors, and provide world-class entertainment for citizens, residents and visitors alike,” according to the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
“The National Gaming and Esports Strategy is driven by the creativity and energy of our citizens and gamers, who are at the heart of the strategy,” the crown prince said.
The strategy also aims to place the Kingdom as the global hub for the gaming and Esports sector, and is expected to create 39,000 jobs by 2030.
“This would provide the foundational environment for developing competencies, and aiming to reach global leadership and enhance the Kingdom’s position on the international arena, through the production of more than 30 competitive games globally in the Kingdom’s studios, and reaching the top three countries in the number of professional esports players,” the crown prince explained.
Additionally, the sector is also expected to contribute SAR50 billion ($13.3 billion) to the Kingdom’s gross domestic product (GDP) in eight years.
The Kingdom aims to implement this strategy through 86 initiatives covering the entire value chain, launched and managed by more than 20 government and private entities, SPA said, adding the country will launch business incubators, host major events for the sector, establish educational academies, and develop regulations to keep up with growth in the sector.
The crown prince added the strategy will include three main objectives that have a direct impact on citizens, the private sector, fans and professionals globally, in the gaming and Esports sector.
“[The strategy] will raise the quality of life by improving the players’ experience, providing new entertainment opportunities, and achieving an economic impact,” he said.
