The UN Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) has recognized Saudi Arabia’s Yanbu industrial city as a global learning city.

The UN’s top cultural body said the recognition for the city was done for its commitment to lifelong learning for its residents and for introducing policies that promote inclusive, safe, resilient and sustainable development, SPA reported.

The recognition will mark the entry of Yanbu industrial city into the UN body’s global network of learning cities.

This is the second Saudi city selected by the UN body, the first being the Jubail industrial city in 2020.
According to the Saudi ministry of education, the learning cities project is implemented in partnership between its Continuous Education Department and Yanbu Royal Commission and in coordination with the National Committee for Education, Culture and Science.

It aims to enhance inclusive, life-long learning culture in the society and provide necessary skills to support citizens to enter the labour market in a way that contributes to achieving the objectives of the Kingdom vision 2030.
