Saudi Arabian officials have reportedly been instructed to wear national dress when travelling abroad.
Orders have been issued to all officials representing the kingdom overseas to wear the formal Saudi dress while attending conferences, participating in meetings or giving media interviews, according to Saudi Gazette.
The traditional Saudi attire comprises the thobe (robe), qutra (head dress), iqal (head ribbon) and mishlah (traditional overcoat).
Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, issued similar directives two years ago stipulating that all Passports Department officers should wear Saudi national dress instead of the green uniform worn by other airport security personnel.
The new rules are intended to conserve the Saudi national identity, the newspaper said.
