Waves as high as nine-feet tall from the Arabian Sea are expected to crash into the UAE coastline throughout Monday afternoon.
The region was hit by thunder storms, lightning and heavy rain on Monday around lunchtime, with uprooted trees and localised flooding reported, while visibility along Sheikh Zayed Road was down to a minimum
Authorities have warned residents and motorists to take extra care and avoid unnecessary trips outside – they even guarded against using mobile phones while out in the rain.
A dust storm warning and high waves warning, which is expected to last until 8pm tonight, was issued by the National Centre of Meteorology (NCM).

Motorists were warned to avoid valleys and roads that are prone to flooding, taking photographs while driving and abiding by the speed limits. While residents were urged to avoid the sea.
Thunderstorms also hit areas of Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah and Sharjah on Saturday night and continued on Sunday morning.
Dubai Airports warned travellers to expect some disruption to flights and asked them to check its website for updates.
A statement said: “Due to unsettled weather conditions, Dubai Airports expects some disruption to flight arrivals and departures this afternoon. We urge customers to check Dubai Airports’ website www.dubaiairports.ae or airline websites for updated flight information. Dubai Airports is working with airlines and other service partners to normalise operations and minimise inconvenience to our customers.”
