UAE residents who feel psychologically overwhelmed by the impact of the global Covid-19 pandemic can now seek help through an online initiative by the National Programme for Happiness and Wellbeing (NPHW).
Over 50 psychology experts will help residents overcome their psychological challenges in a series of programmes across digital solutions and social media channels.
The first of three programmes, “Let’s Support, Together”, consists of daily online live sessions in which mental health professionals provide support, answer questions, and offer tips and guidance to those facing difficulties under these special circumstances. The daily sessions start at 20:30 and are broadcasted via the NPHW social media channels (@HappyUAE).
The second programme called “Let’s Reassure, Together” is a series of short, focused, awareness-raising videos by mental health experts on how to build coping skills and mental resilience, and which will be periodically published on NPHW social media channels.
The third programme, “Let’s Talk, Together”, consists of virtual support groups that provide mental health support to community segments including mothers, students, and elderly caregivers, for application for participation will be opened periodically.
Under the current circumstances, mental support is considered a basic need, according to Ohood bint Khalfan Al Roumi, Minister of State for Happiness and Wellbeing and Director-General of the UAE Prime Minister’s Office.
Coronavirus has so far affected over 1.2 million people around the world, and has caused nearly 65,000 deaths. Its rapid spread since January has led to an economic recession that is expected to be worse than the 2009 real estate crash.
