The Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, or ADAFSA, has announced that nine major Abu Dhabi vegetable and fruit markets in the emirate will re-open with strict guidelines designed to combat the spread of Covid-19.

According to the ADAFSA, the markets will include meat shops in Al Mina Market, Green Market in Bani Yas, Green Market in Shahama, fruit market at butcher shops at Souq Al Jabra in Al Ain and Central Market in Madinat Zayed and the central vegetable and fish market in Ruwais, Al Dhafra.

Vegetable and meat markets markets will be open to the public from 10 am to 7 pm, while fish markets – which were re-opened in early April – are open from 10 am to 5 pm.

To operate, the markets must ensure that customers and staff are wearing masks and gloves, conduct temperature checks and limit shoppers to 30 percent of capacity.

Additionally, market management teams must implement sanitisation plans, enforce social distancing measures and encourage shoppers to use digital payment methods and be done with their purchases within approximately 15 minutes.
