Covid-19 tests at Dubai airport will only be required in suspected cases, according to new airport opening guidelines seen by Arabian Business.
According to the guidelines – which are based on guidance received from the Dubai Covid-19 Command and Control Centre – thermal screening is mandatory for all passengers arriving at either Dubai International Airport or Dubai World Central.
Only passengers showing symptoms of Covid-19, however, will be required to undertake a Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) test for the disease.
Similarly, thermal scanning is also mandatory for all cabin crew and pilots arriving at the airports, with only those showing symptoms being required to take a PCR test.
Additionally, all arriving passengers and crew are required to download and register withthe Dubai Health Authority’s ‘Covid-19 – DXB Smart App’ before they leave the airport.
Passengers also have the choice between home quarantine or institutional quarantine, details of which are provided upon arrival.
Arabian Business has reached out to Dubai Airports for additional comment.
In May, Dubai Airports CEO Paul Griffiths said he believes a hockey stick-like resumption in traffic driven by pent-up demand, but only after there’s a lasting solution to the coronavirus pandemic that’s hammered air travel across the globe.
“Until there is the sort of proven level of confidence medically that people can safely travel without fear of contracting or spreading the virus, unfortunately the situation we find ourselves in will likely continue for some time,” Griffiths said in an interview with Bloomberg. “Gradually we’ll start to see some confidence build,” he said, starting with countries that have gotten the spread of the virus under control.
