The Abu Dhabi Labour Court has secured the unpaid dues of 5,832 labour camp workers, which has hit AED 42.8 million ($11.4 million).
The collective dispute case was closed in a “record time of less than two months,” the court said in a statement on Wam.
“The labour court took prompt legal measures to register the claims, consider the cases and deliver its decisions with expedited enforcement,” it added.
The dues were handed over by mail to the workers in their respective labour camps.
The UAE’s Ministry of Human Resource and Emiritisation earlier updated its Wage Protection System to address the issue of late wages.
It said it will monitor companies through field visits and inspections as part of the new resolution.
It will also issue penalties against companies based on factors including, their size, how long the salaries are delayed, and the number of employees facing the issue.
