Dubai’s RTA has announced a major road closure in the city on Sunday, February 12.
The gradual closure of the road is to accommodate runners, spectators and support vehicles for the Dubai Marathon.
The RTA took to social media to inform its more than 1.1m followers of the closures and also the expected timeframe for the road to reopen.

The statement from the transport authority said: “#RTA announces gradual closure of Sheikh Zayed Bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street from Dubai Expo City and Hessa Street in both directions on February 12, 2023 starting from 4am due to #DubaiMarathon2023 starting from 6am until 1pm.
“Opens gradually starting 11am to fully opening at 1pm.”
The 2023 Dubai Marathon will be held at Expo City on February 12.
The RTA will also extend Dubai Metro operating hours to accomodate marathon runners and supporters.
In order to cope with demand and to give easy access to the Expo City site of the Marathon the RTA will commence Metro service at 4am, instead of 8am.
Organised with the support of the emirate’s Sports Council and the cooperation of various government entities, the 22nd edition of the famous long-distance road race will bring together runners from across the world.

The marathon is bringing together elite athletes from around the world after a break of two years due to the pandemic.
Elite athletes due to take part in the marathon include Ethiopian running star and former champion Tsegaye Mekonnen Asefa.
In the women’s field Ethiopian elites Ruti Aga, Gutemi Shone and Gelete Burka are all set to join the Middle East’s biggest marathon race.
Expo City offers extensive facilities for the marathon’s operations as well as spacious parking areas. The marathon features three runs: the full 42.195km marathon open to runners over 18; the 10km road race open to runners over 15 years of age; and the 4km fun run open to all.
