Wedding proposals in Dubai can cost up to AED250,000, an event planner told Arabian Business.

This comes as demands shift towards “golden hour” events on the coastline overlooking the Burj Al Arab or rooftops with a view of the iconic Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building.

The emirate is rising up the ranks to become one of the world’s most sought-after proposal and wedding destinations, attracting tourists from around the globe for their special day.

Caroline Ralston, Founder and CEO of Dubai’s Proposal Boutique, said that typical proposals average AED40,000 but can go up to AED250,000.

“95 percent of clients want that big Dubai backdrop, and request for the Burj Khalifa or Burj Al Arab backdrop and want a photographer and videographer to capture the moment so they can share on socials,” she said.

“For a long time, the Eiffel Tower was synonymous with proposals, but now the Burj Khalifa and Burj Al Arab are rivalling Paris with our own famous proposal backdrops.”

Since launching her business in 2014, demand for proposal event planning has skyrocketed and is set to hit a record high this year, revealed Ralston. Over the years, she has planned several over-the-top proposals including one in a private zoo, a private football field, and a private Disney-themed affair in the Burj Khalifa.

Dubai’s rising role in destination weddings

Aside from proposals, the emirate is driving the destination wedding trend which has a global market value of around $28.3 billion, according to estimates. Newly-weds from abroad are increasingly opting for honeymoon vacations in the emirate too – be it as a final destination or a layover on the way to the Maldives.

“Dubai is really driving wedding and honeymoon tourism in the region. Dubai Tourism is encouraging more stopovers in Dubai so the trend for multi-sector honeymoons is definitely increasing,” said Ralston.
