Abu Dhabi carrier Etihad Airways is the latest member of a global consortium of key aviation players that promotes net zero goals in the industry.

Etihad has joined the Aviation Impact Accelerator (AIA) which is convened by the University of Cambridge, it said in a statement. Other top members of the group include Boeing and Rolls-Royce.

“We are proud to be partnering with one of the world’s leading jet engine research labs to further support the decarbonisation of our industry,” the airline’s chief executive Tony Douglas said.

The AIA develops tools for decision-makers and the public to better understand pathways to net zero flight, according to Cambridge University’s website.

It is led by the Cambridge Institute for Sustainability Leadership (CISL) and the university’s Whittle Laboratory.

“Achieving an aviation sector with no climate impact is one of society’s greatest challenges and it is only through a true partnership between industry, academia, and government that we will be able to understand the whole system and accelerate change,” Rob Miller, the laboratory’s director, said.

Etihad is the first airline member of the group.
