FedEx Express has launched a new $350 million air and ground regional hub at Dubai World Central Airport, expanding the company’s presence in the Middle East, Indian Subcontinent, and Africa region.
The 57,000 sqm facility incorporates advanced automation technologies including automated sort systems and AI-equipped x-ray machines. It also features a 170 sqm cold storage area and adheres to sustainability standards with a solar power project and electric vehicles.
Located at Dubai South aviation district, the strategic location enhances connectivity through air, land and sea links, strengthening Dubai’s role as a global logistics hub. The facility marks FedEx’s long-term investment of over $1.3 billion in the UAE’s economy and infrastructure.
The facility was inaugurated by Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum along with FedEx Corporation President and CEO Raj Subramaniam and other FedEx executives on Tuesday.
“The inauguration of the FedEx MEISA hub in Dubai South is a strategic milestone for Dubai’s aviation and logistics sectors, consolidating the emirate’s robust infrastructure, strategic location, and our ongoing efforts to enhance global connectivity,” said Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed.
“As we continue to strengthen Dubai’s position as a leading business hub, this new facility underscores our commitment to supporting the growth of trade and commerce, aligning perfectly with our vision for economic diversification and innovation-led development.”
FedEx Express President and CEO Richard W. Smith said the new UAE hub was a “strategic move that significantly boosts our presence and capabilities in the MEISA region.”
“This investment is not just about expanding our network; it’s about enhancing the region’s connectivity and playing a key role in facilitating trade and commerce across the world,” Smith added.
“Given the UAE’s current status among the top five countries in global re-export operations, our regional hub not only aims to serve the MEISA region, which accounts for approximately 45 percent of the world’s population but is also a crucial part of our global air network that connects 220 countries and territories.”
FedEx Express MEISA President Kami Viswanathan said the new hub enhances the company’s commitment to transforming operations “through automation and building a smarter and more sustainable logistics network.”
