Spinneys announces bartender competition in Abu Dhabi

The competition, titled Capital Bartenders, is a partnership between Spinneys Beverages and Head of Bar ‘The Cocktail Butcher’ from COYA Abu Dhabi.

The competition will also be a venue to nurture talent, educate and upskill bartenders, and is part of Spinneys Beverages’ advocate program, the BarCraft Collective by Spinneys Beverages.

According to a statement, the advocate programme has a clear goal to “upscale, foster and celebrate local talent, with a focus on three main pillars:

• Education – Empowering bartenders with the skills and knowledge they need to excel in their craft.
• Drinks – Elevating exciting drinks, highlighting emerging trends, and creating exceptional experiences for consumers.
• People – Celebrating local talent, building community, and engaging through events and networking opportunities.

Those interested in participating in the competition must register themselves by July 7, and will be given the opportunity to create an “exclusive beverage” which represents “the passion and flair they have for cocktail making,” the statement said.

However, these exclusive creations must follow strict guidelines and must use select spirits from the Spinneys liquor list sponsored by Bacardi.

“There is no limit on the amount of ingredients used, and homemade ingredients are encouraged,” the statement said adding “one factor that can propel a participant to Capital Bartender stardom, is to create their drink around an original concept or story, giving the judges a real insight into the roots of their concoction.”

Six finalists will be selected by judges to compete in the final held at COYA Abu Dhabi on July 17.

Once announced, the winner will receive the Capital Bartender 2023 title, a certificate, a trophy, and a voucher worth AED2,000 to spend at supermarket chain branches in Abu Dhabi.
