The UAE and France signed several deals on Monday, including on climate action and lunar exploration, as both countries aim to enhance bilateral relations in critical sectors.
The signing comes as Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan visits the European country to meet with top officials.
The two countries signed a series of agreements to deepen economic ties, including deals on cooperation in higher education, climate action, healthcare, and space activities, state news agency WAM has reported.
Sheikh Mohamed and his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron also saw the creation of the UAE-French Business Council, which aims to strengthen relations in vital fields such as energy, transport, and investment.
The council, chaired by Emirati Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber and TotalEnergies chief Patrick Pouyanne, will be made up of 18 chief executives who will meet at least once a year between France and the UAE. The next session will be held in the Emirates in May or June.
Dedicated groups within the council were established to make specific recommendations in the fields of energy, industry, technology, and investment.
Also during the state visit, two energy deals were signed between the two countries, including a Comprehensive Strategic Energy Partnership (CSEP) which will focus on enhancing energy security, affordability, as well as decarbonisation.
“In line with the vision of the UAE’s wise leadership, we will continue to build bridges of partnership across conventional and new energies, as well as capitalise on the economic opportunities of the energy transition, strengthen industrial cooperation and drive sustainable growth,” Al Jaber said.
