A second crew member of a helicopter that crashed off the UAE coast has been confirmed dead

A second pilot has been confirmed dead following a helicopter crash in the UAE on Thursday.

The crash involved a Bell 212 chopper on a training flight in Umm Al Quwain.

On Friday, the General Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that one crew member from the Aerogulf helicopter fight was dead, and search and rescue operations were ongoing.

A GCAA statement said that the helicopter fell in the sea during a night training flight and that parts of the wreckage had been found.

On Sunday, Aerogulf published a statement on its website confirming that both crew members died during the incident.

It said: “Aerogulf Services regret to inform that one of our Bell 212 helicopters crashed into the sea off the coast of the UAE at 20:07 on September 7, 2023.

“The helicopter was conducting routine training operations between Al Maktoum International Airport and an offshore rig.

“The helicopter was carrying two crew members and no passengers onboard. Sadly, we can confirm that both crew members have perished.”

Aerogulf added that it is is continuing to work with the authorities to recover the wreckage and investigate the cause of the accident.
