UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan will travel to Russia on Tuesday to meet with President Vladimir Putin, WAM reported.
Russia’s Putin and Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahyan will discuss regional and international issues of common interest, WAM said.
According to Bloomberg reports, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the two leaders are set to meet at the Russian president’s hometown of St. Petersburg.
Sheikh Mohamed’s visit “is part of the UAE’s continuous endeavour to contribute to achieving security and stability in the region and the world, and to enhance fruitful and constructive cooperation with regional and international powers, in addition to communicating with all parties concerned in the Ukraine crisis to help reach effective political solutions,” WAM reported.
The UAE president’s visit comes right after the recent explosion on the bridge link to Crimea, which was blamed on Ukraine’s secret services by Moscow.
“Russian missiles on Monday struck the Ukrainian capital Kyiv and other cities across the country, with Putin threatening further strikes,” Bloomberg reported.
The UAE ministry added bilateral talks will also address the latest developments related to the Ukraine crisis, adding that the UAE has called diplomacy, dialogue, and respect for the rules and principles of international law.
This will be Sheikh Mohamed’s third foreign trip after officially taking on the role as president of UAE.
