Skyscanner has released report on top family travel destinations for summer, including recommendations for affordable car rentals with potential savings of up to 14 percent.
The company’s research, conducted with OnePoll, indicates that 48 percent of UAE residents have booked their summer holidays. However, only 53 percent of these travellers have secured car hire, compared to 97 percent who have booked flights.
Skyscanner’s booking data reveals that UAE travellers tend to arrange car rentals closer to their departure dates.
The figures show that 84 percent of residents book their car rentals less than four weeks before departure, with 31 percent making bookings either the day before or on the day of travel.

Skyscanner’s data shows that off-airport rentals can offer savings. In Milan, airport terminal rentals cost AED128, while off-airport options are AED87. Frankfurt’s off-airport rentals are priced at AED98, less than city centre rates. In Los Angeles, airport rentals are AED178, compared to AED176 for off-airport options.
The company’s figures indicate that changing pick-up times by an hour can lead to savings:
- Los Angeles: Moving from 6am to 7am saves 37 percent, from AED329 to AED196
- Milan: Shifting from 4pm to 5pm saves 13 percent, from AED115 to AED108
- Ibiza: Changing from 8pm to 9pm saves 21 percent, from AED120 to AED108
- Frankfurt: An hour shift saves 26 percent, from AED221 to AED168
- London: Moving from 11am to 12pm saves 8 percent, from AED177 to AED160
