UAE summer travel trends: Hotels, flights, private tours

Travel rates are set to surge in August, here are the trends revealed

During the summer months in the UAE, travel trends witness a tremendous surge with school holidays overlapping with the summer period as well as a rise in business and leisure trips.

According to recent data by Musafir.com, an online travel agency in the UAE, a vast number of residents are set to travel in August with low fares and low-rate packages pushing the trend.

A remarkable surge is observed in the search for affordable luxury experiences with the market witnessing significant growth. Data reveals that there is a rising preference for 5-star properties, business class or premium economy flights and exclusive private tours.

Family vacations are emerging as the holiday of choice for a whopping 80 percent of travellers with hotels and hotel apartments as the preferred accommodation choice.

Prevailing with the trends from the public holidays this year the considerations remained aligned with budgets, seamless visa processes and favourable weather.

Raheesh Babu, COO of Musafir.com, said: “Previously, home country vacations were the norm, but we are witnessing a remarkable shift as people now opt for 1-2 leisure trips combined with visits to loved ones.

“Many are choosing to elevate their travel experiences with premium economy flights and minimum 4-star accommodations, seeking the perfect balance of luxury and affordability. Even for those opting for staycations within the UAE, short getaways across the country are gaining popularity.”

UAE’s summer travel boom

Unlike the extended weekends during the public holidays, the summer season sees residents in the UAE embarking for longer travel with an average budget of AED3,500 to AED4,000 per person.

Destinations of interest during the summer were revealed to be Bangkok, Baku, Salalah, Abha and AlUla with a common preference for visa-free destinations.

“This year, we have witnessed an exceptional rise in leisure packages booked, with over 15,000 packages sold, more than doubling our pre-COVID numbers. The growth momentum is expected to continue, driving double-digit growth in the coming years,” Raheesh said.

Additionally, the demand for adventure sports are on the rise alongside eco-friendly experiences.

Travellers are increasingly planning holidays through the use of online bookings and mobile apps.
