An app has been launched by the Departments of Health in Abu Dhabi and Dubai to allow for rapid detection of potential cases of coronavirus.
The Alhosn UAE app, named after Abu Dhabi’s historic fort, allows for Covid-19 results to be received on the phone. A unique QR code will also serve as a guide on an individual’s health status, allowing them to visit public places and interact with others.
The free app is a combination of the Stay Home and Trace Covid apps previously launched by the Department of Health.
Dr. Amna Al Shamsi, spokesperson for the UAE Government, explained: “The application provides a service that shows to what extent people under home quarantine abide by the required measures in order to ensure their protection and the safety of the public. Every user will have a QR code showing his or her health condition.
“The app uses Bluetooth short range signals to show whether or not the person in question is near other people who had contact with previously confirmed Covid-19 cases who also should have the app installed on their mobiles.”
The Alhosn application, which guarantees a high degree of privacy protection to users through artificial intelligence and other technological tools, also provides a service that shows the extent to which people in home quarantine adhere to the instructions and avoid contact with other people, aimed at protecting those in quarantine as well as everyone else.
Dr. Alawi Al Sheikh, the spokesman for the advanced science sector, has revealed that more than 58 studies are currently being conducted in the UAE in various fields to understand the nature of Covid-19 and develop innovative treatments, diagnostic devices, and digital tools with the aim of reducing the burden on medical facilities.
“These studies are looking into ways of simulating the spread of the disease and the movement of patients and the psychological and health impact of the virus on society.”
