URB, a global sustainable developer is set to launch XZero City, a sustainable net-zero community for 100,000 residents in the southern region of Kuwait.
As part of URB’s initiative to “shaping the future by creating the next generation of Net Zero Sustainable Cities”, it will supply 30,000 residential units in this ambitious 1,600 hectare project in addition to 30,000 eco-friendly jobs.
Building eco-cities comes within the strategy of the Kuwait National Development Plan towards Sustainable Development Goals and Kuwait Vision 2035 enabling the next generation of sustainable cities for a green circular economy.
The green hub will provide an autism village, wellness center and clinics with 100 percent renewable energy, water and waste recycling. A nursery, school and an institute will also be part of the educational hub. An indoor mall and flexible office space will make up the commercial hub.
Providing social, environmental, and economic sustainability, this green city will be spread across a diverse range of sectors such as medical, tourism, technology, educational, retail and entertainment.
“XZERO City is a new paradigm in green urban living and a new benchmark model for the next generation of sustainable cities,” said URB’s CEO, Baharash Bagherian.
“As a self-sufficient city, XZERO will provide all the resident’s caloric food intake on site through its productive landscape. The city incorporates many different urban farming methods such as community gardens, bio domes, aquaponics, vertical farms and biosaline agriculture,” he adds.
At the core to creating this liveable city is a unique resilient landscape designed to promote health, well-being, and biodiversity. The multi-functional landscape will be planned to be pedestrian-friendly with access to transport with 35 kilometers of designated running and cycling tracks.
Geared to be a benchmark for future cities alongside providing the highest quality of life, this multi-functional landscape is set to be the “social glue to the entire city and will connect residents to all amenities within minutes through its 44 kms of dedicated green mobility tracks”.
“The creation of cities that follow the highest standards of sustainability is no longer a choice, it has become a necessity.” Aldar, Abu Dhabi’s real estate giant, became the first Middle East company to implement net zero goals in real estate.
XZERO is gaining traction with newer sustainable cities such as AlNama, Nexgen, The Sustainable City in Yiti, The Sustainable City Yas Island among others.
