Nakheel has awarded a US $272 million (1 billion dirham) infrastructure contract to Khansaheb Civil Engineering to develop the first phase of its family-oriented residential community, Al Furjan.
Khansehab won the contract through a tendering process after beating off competition from other infrastructure providers in Dubai. The scope of work will include the completion of all infrastructure works for phase one of Al Furjan.
According to Nakheel, work on the first phase is to commence in the third quarter of 2008 and completion is expected in the third quarter of 2011 for over 2000 villas and terrace homes. But a source close to the project said that work on the development has already commenced.
Al Furjan, meaning ‘a collection of houses or a small village’, comprises four communities with more than 4000 homes which will be defined by individual neighbourhood centres.
These centres and other amenities, such as schools, are designed to be within easy walking distance of homes.
The Project Manager is Turners International.
Mohammed Rashed bin Dhabeah, director, Al Furjan, said: “The award of this one billion dirham infrastructure contract is a significant milestone in Al Furjan’s development. Khansaheb Civil Engineering LLC is a company renowned in Dubai for their quality of work and timely delivery and we are thrilled to be working with them. Ultimately, it is our customers that will measure our performance and, therefore, our success, so it is vital that we continue to be aligned with similar companies to address these expectations and realise Nakheel’s position in Dubai.”
Hussain Abdul Rahman Khansaheb, chairman, Khansaheb said: “Al Furjan is an important project for our company and it brings together two Dubai companies that share a vision for this city. We are excited to be involved in the creation of this new integrated residential community.”
Nakheel’s projects are conservatively estimated to be worth $80 billion. Upon completion, Nakheel’s waterfront projects will have added more than 1,000km of shoreline to Dubai’s coastline.
