Two UAE schools have been nominated for the World’s Best School Prizes 2024 awards.
Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and GEMS Legacy School are now shortlisted among the top 10 schools globally running to win a share of the $50,000 prize fund.
Founded by global education hub T4 Education, the annual global awards recognise schools in five categories: community collaboration, environmental action, innovation, overcoming adversity, and supporting healthy lives.
The awards were established in collaboration with Accenture, American Express, and the Lemann Foundation as a response to the pandemic. They aim to highlight the work of schools that are making a significant difference not only in their classrooms but also in their communities and beyond. The goal is to share their work more widely to improve education everywhere.
Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills has been shortlisted in the “Environmental Action” category for its successful community change initiatives. The Dubai-based independent school, which serves kindergarten through secondary students, has been recognised for its personalised learning pathway programmes and project-based learning that emphasise culturally responsive education and sustainability projects.
The Dubai independent school GEMS Legacy School, has been nominated for the “Supporting Health Lives’ category for its work in promoting holistic wellbeing and sustainable lifestyle choices among students. The school’s efforts have impacted over 6,000 children, with initiatives such as school-wide fruit breaks and sleep hygiene workshops.

“Trailblazing UAE schools like Dubai International Academy Emirates Hills and GEMS Legacy School, which have cultivated a strong culture and aren’t afraid to innovate, show the difference that can be made to so many lives. Schools everywhere can now learn from their solutions, and it’s time governments do so as well.” commented Vikas Pota, Founder of T4 Education and the World’s Best School Prizes.
The winners of the five prizes will be chosen by an expert Judging Academy based on rigorous criteria and invited to the World Schools Summit, to be held in Dubai on November 23-24, 2024.
In addition, all 50 shortlisted global schools across the five prizes will also take part in a public vote, which opened on 13 June. The school which receives the most public votes will receive the Community Choice Award and membership to T4 Education’s Best School to Work programme to help support teacher wellbeing and solve the teacher recruitment and retention crisis.
“Unless we solve the urgent challenges global education faces – from learning gaps exacerbated by COVID to chronic underfunding and the growing teacher wellbeing, recruitment and retention crisis – we will have failed the next generation” Polka added.
