A number of sexual performance enhancers and weight reduction pills being sold online contain dangerous chemicals, according to the Ministry of Health and Prevention.
Dr Ameen Al Amiri, assistant under-secretary for public health policy and licensing at the ministry, told local media that the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) had notified the Ministry of Health and Prevention of this issue.
Due to their high risk, these diet supplements can cause a sudden drop in blood pressure and have serious side effects for patients suffering from cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol and diabetes.
Dr Al Amiri also said that these medicines must not be taken by patients who take any nitrate-based medicines for heart disease, adding that dietary supplements that are not registered with the ministry but were being sold online, should not be bought by the general public.
Those include Wonder Erect Male Gum and weight reduction pills that contain chemicals such as vardenafil, sibutramine and phenolphthalein.
Last month, Dr. Al Amiri also publicly warned against the use of the ‘Kimi Pickett’ cough syrup, which was distributed by an unrecognised company not registered in the country.
