UAE okays hospital supply buys

Dubai’s Ministry of Health has approved over AED100 million worth of medical supplies for UAE hospitals.

Dubai’s Ministry of Health (MoH) has approved over AED100 million ($27.2 million) worth of drugs and medical supplies to meet hospital needs in the Emirates for the next year.

According to a senior health official, the Requirements Committee of the Medical Districts is set to supply nearly 405 types of medicines to the hospitals in the UAE in 2008.

The MoH purchased AED89 million worth of pharmaceutical products from the tenders of the Secretariat of the Gulf Health (SGH), Humaid Mohammed Al Shamsi, assistant under-secretary for Pharmacy Supplies at the MoH, was quoted as saying by the Emirates News Agency today.

Other drugs at a cost of AED10million were purchased at the Federal Tender of Medicine (FTM), an internal tender held by the MoH that targets foreign companies, Al Shamsi added.

The Committee has also approved purchases of x-ray devices, disposable items, and other medical devices worth AED6.4 milion for hospital intensive care units and operation theatres.
