UAE residents are allowed to import narcotic medicines and psychotropics (controlled medicine) for personal use to the country upon the issue of a permit from the MoHAP official portal.
Required documents from UAE residents includes:
- A copy of the medical prescription with the name of the patient issued for a period of no more than three months from application.
- An authenticated medical report from the health facility in which the patient is treated within the country.
- Copy of Emirates ID or passport.
Requirements for travellers includes:
- A medical report issued not more than one year by the health facility in which the patient is treated, authenticated by the health authority in the country in which the treatment is received, or the country’s embassy therein, or by any accredited authentication body in that country.
- Or authenticated copy of the prescription in the name of the patient, issued not more than three months, including the patient’s full name, the scientific and/or commercial drug name, the pharmaceutical form, the prescribed dose, the date of issuing the prescription, the duration of treatment, the name of the physician, his/her seal and the stamp of the treating authority.
- Copy of the passport.
The steps to apply for the permit are:
- Access to the electronic service through the MoHAP website or the SmartApp and create an account on the website or smart application.
- Fill out the data and attach the required documents and complete them to obtain approval.
- If the conditions are met, the permit will be issued through the MOHAP e-system or SmartAPP.
Service completion duration is three days and there is no service fee.
If the patient is under the legal age, their parent/guardian is to apply for the permit through the system.
