Official mourning period announced across UAE

Government offices to shut across UAE, flags to fly at half mast after death of Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi

The UAE government has declared an official mourning period of a week following the death of His Highness Sheikh Saqr Al Qasimi, the ruler of Ras Al Khaimah, on Wednesday.

Government ministries and institutions across the country will shut from Wednesday, the government said, and flags will be flown at half mast. At the time of writing, no directive had been issued to the private sector, concerning schools and offices.

Abu Dhabi

Seven days of mourning declared. Flags will be flown at half mast on all federal departments, ministries and government institutions in effect from Wednesday.

Dubai

Seven days mourning declared, with flags to fly at half mast.

Sharjah

Seven days of mourning declared. Flags to fly at half mast, and local government departments to close for three days from Thursday.

Ras Al Khaimah

Official mourning period declared, in effect from Wednesday. Flags to fly at half mast for forty days, and local government departments to close for one week.

Ajman

Seven days mourning declared, with flags at half mast. Local departments will remain closed for three days, beginning on Wednesday.

Umm Al Quwain

Seven days of mourning declared. Flags to fly at half mast, and local government departments closed for three days, beginning Wednesday.
