UAE’s top football league matches to be shown live free-to-air

UAE President Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Tuesday ordered for the removal of satellite encryption of all Arabian Gulf League football matches.

The order also applies to the President’s Cup and aims to allow the public to access free-to-air live broadcast of matches.

State news agency WAM said the latest directive reflects government efforts to support and develop the country’s sports sector across many levels including the building of stadiums and sports facilities, as well as offering free television broadcasting of sports events.

The UAE Pro-League, known for sponsorship reasons as the Arabian Gulf League, is the top professional football league in the United Arab Emirates.

The first team to win the title was Al-Sharjah, whilst Al Ain has the record with 12 league titles to their name and are curent champions. A total of 14 clubs compete in the league.

Al Ain are also defending champions of the UAE President’s Cup which was founded in 1974.
