Hollywood casts Oman in leading role

Production of major movie begins in Sultanate next year with Omani star included in cast.

A Hollywood producer has chosen Oman as the location for his next movie, which goes into production early next year.

The Sultanate will provide the backdrop to ‘Brothers Till the End,’ a new project by martial artist and producer Kamel Krifa, who has himself starred in films including Universal Soldier and Double Impact, Associated Press reported.

According to AP, Krifa made a week-long visit to the country to scout locations for the movie, which has been backed by the Ministry of Heritage and Culture. Authorities hope the venture will promote the Sultanate as a tourism destination and backdrop for further film shoots.

Up to 70% of the 90 minute film will be shot in Oman, with a guest appearance from Omani actor Salim Bahwan, star of the country’s first feature movie Al Boom. It will be the first time the majority of a Hollywood production will have been filmed in the country.

“Oman is indeed a beautiful country with a lot of potential as a backdrop for film shoots,” Krifa told reporters. “Brothers Till the End will be essentially an Omani product that will be exported to the United States and the rest of world. We have planned for the movie to premiere in Oman.”

Krifa will be represented in the Sultanate by SIBA Art Production and Distribution, a local co-production firm and film agency.

SIBA production manager Stegath Door said the project was a “milestone event” that would place Oman on the global tourism map.

“We set up SIBA in part to promote Oman as a location for film shoots. The natural diversity offered by the Sultanate is unequalled in the Gulf region. In addition to buying and selling films, SIBA will also be involved in facilitating visits by crews from Hollywood and the Indian film industries, like Bollywood, Tollywood and so on. We specialise in handling all the arrangements on the ground and obtaining the requisite approvals from the Omani authorities” he said.
