Kuwait "Talk To Me" Ban Sparks Controversy

Kuwait has banned the screening of the horror film titled ‘Talk to Me’, which stars transgender Australian actor Zoe Terakes, Kuwait Times reported citing Kuwaiti authorities’ confirmation to Agence France-Presse (AFP) on Monday.

Kuwait blocks Australian film “Talk to Me”

Hisham Alghanim, Vice Chairman of the Kuwait National Cinema Company, informed AFP that the scheduled release of the Australian film was stopped last week.

However, the exact reasons behind this decision remain “unknown until now,” the report said citing Alghanim.

Kuwait’s information ministry reportedly declined to provide immediate comments on the matter.

Zoe Terakes, a non-binary actor who also appeared in the highly acclaimed TV series ‘Nine Perfect Strangers’, criticised Kuwait’s move to ban ‘Talk to Me’.

In a statement shared on X, Terakes said, “Our film doesn’t have queer themes. I am a trans actor who happened to get the role. I’m not a theme. I’m a person.”
