Emirates Telecommunications Corporation, better known as Etisalat, on Thursday said it has halted broadcast of its Yemen TV channel.
The telco said it has decided to cease broadcasting the channel, which is carried in its e-Life bundle, as “it contains inciting programmes, and is an opponent to legitimacy and the international resolutions on Yemen”.
The move follows an earlier decision by Saudi Arabia and Arab allies to launch warplanes on Shi’ite Muslim rebels fighting to oust Yemen’s president.
Gulf broadcaster Al Arabiya TV reported that the kingdom was contributing as many as 150,000 troops and 100 warplanes to the operations and that Egypt, Jordan, Sudan and Pakistan were ready to take part in a ground offensive in Yemen.
There was no immediate confirmation of those figures from Riyadh. Al Arabiya also said planes from Egypt, Morocco, Jordan, Sudan, Kuwait, the UAE, Qatar and Bahrain were taking part in the operation.
