A traditional Arabic restaurant with two outlets in Dubai is offering camel burgers in a local take on an American classic.

Local House in Bastakiya, Bur Dubai, based on a traditional Emirati home, and it’s kiosk in The Walk, Jumeirah Beach Residence, is selling a quarter pounder camel burger for AED20.

The meat is sourced from a camel farm in Al Ain and is prepared using a “secret” mix of spices, the assistant manager Ali Ahmad Esmail told Gulf News.

The restaurant is planning to open a third outlet at the Burj Khalifa, Esmail said.

He said the dish was a popular choice of tourists.

Baby camel burgers have been on sale in neighbouring Saudi Arabia since last year when a restaurant in Riyadh began offering the dish.

Throughout Middle Eastern history, the camel has served multiple purposes as food, friend, and transport.

The Arabic language famously has more than 40 terms for different breeds, ages and genders of camel.
