Abu Dhabi confirmed as final race of next season’s Formula 1

FIA bosses in Paris finalise 2009 timetable with emirate in coveted last place.

Formula One bosses confirmed on Tuesday that Abu Dhabi will definitely host the 2009 season finale Grand Prix.

The UAE’s capital was provisionally allotted the Nov. 15, 2009 date in late June, but the date was only irrevocably confirmed by the ruling body, the Federation Internationale d’Automobile (FIA), at the meeting in Paris.

The decision means Abu Dhabi will host the final race of the season of the FIA Formula 1 World Championship, with expected television audiences of around 500 million. In the past, the championship has often been decided on the last race, as happened in 2007.

The biggest surprise of the revised calendar was the absence of the Canadian Grand Prix, considered one of the most popular circuits on the world tour. The decision means there will be no Grand Prix in North America next year.
