India-based Himalaya Drug Company, a producer of cosmetics, nutritional supplements, herbal medicines and pharmaceutical-grade Ayurvedic products, has announced plans to expand its global research centre in Dubai.
Dubai Science Park (DSP) said it will host the centre from 2021, adding that the state-of-the-art facility aims to enhance Himalaya’s R&D capabilities to serve the GCC region.
Himalaya’s core business lies in R&D and manufacturing of high-quality pharmaceutical and personal care products.
The move, which will result in the creation of more than 100 jobs, comes as overseas companies are seeking to expand in the UAE and the wider region, a statement said.
Marwan Abdulaziz Janahi, managing director of DSP, said: “In line with our ambition to consolidate Dubai’s position as a prime destination for scientific, R&D and manufacturing activities, we are pleased to support the expansion of Himalaya, a company dedicated to enhancing its expertise in the pharmaceutical and personal care fields.”
He added: “Over the last decade, the UAE and India have continued to strengthen their long-standing ties, evidenced by the significant number of Indian firms based in Dubai. Our robust infrastructure and business-friendly environment are among the key factors that encourage these companies to establish their Middle East head offices in the UAE.”

He said over the last 88 years, the company has been a leader in the research and manufacturing of pharmaceutical, personal care, baby care, nutritional and animal health products.
Dubai Science Park is currently home to over 350 business partners with more than 4,000 employees.
