UAE telecom firm Etisalat launched on Monday a new set of roaming charges based on zones in a bid to simplify services for customers.
Customers will now be charged a flat rate depending on which zone they are in when sending SMS messages or making and receiving voice and video calls while abroad, the firm said in a statement.
The roaming zones are; the GCC, other Arab countries, and the rest of the world.
GSM customers receiving a call from overseas while in the GCC will be charged AED1.25 per minute, while wasel customers will be charged AED2.
Meanwhile, GSM customers in the rest of the world zone making a call home to the UAE will be charged AED10 per minute, and wasel customers AED11 per minute, according to the firm.
All charges are inclusive of tax or additional operator charges.
“The new unified zoning for roaming customers is a result of Etisalat’s effort and staunch dedication to ensure high quality, simple and more favourable roaming service to its users,” said Khalifa Al Shamsi, senior vice president, consumer marketing at Etisalat.
Etisalat said wasel customers abroad can make non-direct calls locally or to the UAE in countries where direct roaming is not supported by dialing *111*(phone number)# and clicking on `send’, all calls charged as per the new simplified tariff.
Customers will be sent an SMS informing them of the new roaming tariffs once they land at their destination, the firm said.
