Document imaging distributor Forefront Technologies is showcasing the ScanRobot SR300, a fully-automatic book scanner.

Targeted at libraries, museums and universities, regional sales manager for Forefront Technologies, Johni R Jabbor, says the ScanRobot is “perfect for anyone who wants to convert books to a digital format in a very short time”.

The auto-flip book scanner can digitally store 1500 pages every hour. “It’s a brand new machine featuring very new technology,” explains Jabbor.

Forefront Technologies first brought a book scanner to GITEX Technology Week four years ago and since then demand has been incredible, Jabbor says.

“I know that we are overbooked. Even the machine we are showcasing at GITEX is sold and as soon as we are done here, it will be sent to Europe to the purchaser.”

But rather than solely relying on a brand new product launch, Forefront is establishing a complete solution strategy by sharing its stand with its new partner, Overland Storage.

“Overland Storage is one of the leading storage providers in the world,” says Jabbor. “There are three tiers of storage, namely online, near line, and back up. Overland complements our range of products,” he adds.

Best known for its archival storage solutions, Forefront Technologies wanted to be involved in the near line and online storage business. “The target is not to compete with the big players in the market, but to complement the total offering by us,” Jabbor says.

“We always look at GITEX as an opportunity to give the complete solution for any visitor that is looking for document management, archival or backlog conversion projects,” he adds.

Jabbor also highlights how important GITEX is for the company. “Usually, the oil or banking sectors visit the stands to see the products and it’s the time when they decide which product they want to go with,” Jabbor says. “There is always an opportunity for us to complete these pending deals.”
