The UAE and India could work together to substantially increase their footprints across the world through commerce, Omar bin Sultan Al Olama, minister of state for AI, digital economy and remote work applications, said.

Addressing a three-day global conference on technology in New Delhi on Wednesday, Al Olama said the way to influence the world today is through commerce.

The UAE minister also highlighted the deep-rooted relations between the two countries and said there were multiple areas for bilateral cooperation, besides immense scope for collaboration between startups in both countries.

The minister said his mandate was to check the bad and advance the good while promoting technology to create a better future for all.

“My job is to ensure that artificial intelligence (AI) deployment allows for more proactive governments, allows for better economic returns and allows for a better future for everyone,” he said.

Al Olama also emphasised his drive to apply AI to increase efficiency and reduce cost of production in the oil industry.

“We need to spend on infrastructure. We will use AI and manage traffic effectively to ensure that people do not get gridlocked as increased traffic flows,” the minister said.

Al Olama also said the UAE has a high share of women in digital space, stating that more women are now entering into science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) due to increased connectivity.

The three-day conference, titled CyFy2022, focused on engaging in critical foresight to shape policy, normative, and systemic responses to both established trends and signals of change.
