Visa, Crypto.com give football fans opportunity to own a piece of FIFA history

The Visa Masters of Movement hybrid experience featured an NFT auction of iconic FIFA goals, with an upcoming on-site, immersive activation set to take place at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022

FIFA Masters of Movement

In a first-ever collaboration set to bring football fans an experience to remember, Visa and Crypto.com unveiled Visa Masters of Movement, a hybrid experience that kicked off with a pre-event NFT auction of some of FIFA World Cup and FIFA Women’s World Cup’s most memorable, iconic goals.

Later this month, the event will come to life at FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, where fans will have the opportunity to become fully immersed in an interactive pitch at the FIFA Fan Festival – creating digital art inspired by their very own moves. Eligible fans will have the option to mint the art into their own NFT in partnership with Crypto.com, the official cryptocurrency trading platform sponsor for the sporting spectacle.

Speaking at the Masters of Movement launch from Visa’s CEMEA Innovation Center, which transported visitors to the FIFA World Cup Qatar via Virtual Reality headsets, Dr. Saeeda Jaffar, Senior Vice President and Group Country Manager for GCC, Visa, told Arabian Business: “We’ve created Masters of Movement for everyone who loves football. It’s a fusion of art, football, and technology…a unique recreation of iconic movements in digital art form, inspired by the fluidity of players on the pitch,” she added.

Featuring digital art drawing inspiration from top goals by the scorers, legendary footballers Jared Borgetti, Tim Cahill, Carli Lloyd, Michael Owen, and Maxi Rodriguez minted into unique, collector’s NFTs, the Visa Masters of Movement auction went live on Crypto.com (auction ended on November 8 9:00pm GMT). Football fans were able to bid on the dynamic NFTs, designed using an algorithm by the award-winning XK Studios, which were added to the highest bidder’s Crypto.com wallet. Transforming digital into physical, the owner received a high-quality, printable art file and signed memorabilia from the player, retrieved from the NFT.

Akshay Chopra, Vice President and Head of Innovation & Design at Visa Central Europe, Middle East and Africa, added: “Now at the centre of payments conversations globally, NFTs have given new impetus for the creator economy, particularly in art and sports. As the region that minted Visa’s first NFT globally, we are delighted that the Masters of Movement NFTs are being launched at our CEMEA Innovation Center, and excited to be able to share this amazing experience with everyone, everywhere.”

Helping football fans pay it forward and make a positive impact, Visa Masters of Movement auction proceeds will be donated to Street Child United, a charitable organisation incorporated and operating in the United Kingdom, with a mission to tackle the widespread stigma that street-connected children face globally. “Visa is proud to partner with Crypto.com to support Street Child United and the amazing work they do. We believe in empowering people and communities to uplift everyone, everywhere,” said Dr. Jaffar.

“We’re thrilled to partner with Visa to give fans a new way to engage with and experience the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 while benefiting Street Child United,” said Stuart Isted, General Manager, Middle East and Africa at Crypto.com. “It’s an honour to partner with such iconic global brands and football legends to bring the game to life through art.”

While enjoying an interactive, engaging Visa Masters of Movement experience, fans can learn about the new ways through which Visa is enabling the movement of money across the world, including emerging technologies such as crypto, and other digital solutions that provide more people with access to the global economy.
