The Department of Transport-Abu Dhabi will enforce a reduced speed limit on the emirates roads during dense fog or bad weather conditions.
The department’s Traffic Safety Committee said a smart intelligent system will reduce the speed limit displayed on the roads when there’s poor visibility as a result of fog or inclement weather.
When visibility is reduced to less than 200 metres, the speed limit on roads will be reduced to 80kph.
“The modified speeds on the roads are determined according to the traffic safety during adverse weather,” said the Department of Transport-Abu Dhabi (DoT).
“The modified speeds are identified on the smart towers installed on Sheikh Rashid Bin Saeed Street (Abu Dhabi – Dubai) and Sheikh Khalifa Street (Al Saadiyat). All vehicles should follow the announced speed limits until the visibility is clear and return to the regular speed limit signs.”
The traffic authorities will also erect a fixed speed sign with a traffic light in areas where there are no smart towers. The traffic radars will also be adjusted to 80kph.
