Abu Dhabi will introduce new heavy-vehicle restrictions on several major roads from December 1, 2025 as part of a wider strategy to enhance road safety, ease congestion and improve traffic flow across the emirate.

The Integrated Transport Centre (ITC), an affiliate of the Department of Municipalities and Transport, announced that heavy-vehicle movement will be banned on Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid Road (E11) and Al Raha Beach Road (E10).

There will be further restrictions applied during peak hours on Al Rawdah Road (E30) in Musaffah.

The measures form part of a comprehensive ITC plan to regulate traffic on corridors that regularly experience high truck volumes.

The restrictions aim to reduce accidents, improve mobility, and increase the overall efficiency of Abu Dhabi’s strategic transport network, which supports key residential, commercial and industrial destinations.

The ban on heavy vehicles along E11 and E10 is intended to reduce traffic pressure on two of Abu Dhabi’s busiest routes, particularly during peak hours when private vehicles and public buses see significant movement.

Road rules

ITC said the new rules will enhance the daily travel experience and support safer, more reliable transport conditions.

As part of the implementation, ITC has designated Al Fayah – Seih Shuaib Road (E75) and Al Haffar Road as alternative routes for heavy vehicles.

Both corridors have been prepared to safely accommodate truck traffic, ensuring continuity of goods movement and commercial activity without affecting traffic flow within the city.

ITC also confirmed that truck movements will be prohibited on Al Rawdah Road (E30) in the Musaffah Industrial Area — from the Bridges Complex to the Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed International Road (E11) junction — during morning and evening peak hours.

An alternative route will be provided via the ICAD Bridge to minimise interactions with light vehicles and improve traffic flow in the area.

Abdulla Hamad AlEryani, Acting Executive Director of the Planning and Strategic Affairs Sector at ITC, said the decision reflects the organisation’s commitment to enhancing the efficiency of Abu Dhabi’s road network and achieving the highest standards of traffic safety.

He noted that the measures align with Abu Dhabi Vision 2030, which aims to develop an integrated and sustainable transport system that supports the emirate’s long-term economic goals.

Improved traffic flow

AlEryani added, “The Integrated Transport Centre continuously implements targeted initiatives designed to improve traffic flow and provide a safe, community- and environmentally friendly transport environment. The restriction of heavy vehicles on key routes is part of a well-considered approach that balances traffic safety requirements with the needs of commercial and service transport.”

ITC called on all heavy-vehicle drivers and transport companies to comply fully with the new regulations and signage across affected routes, emphasising the importance of cooperation to ensure smooth implementation and enhance overall road safety and quality of life.
