Bahrain’s Gulf Air has announced plans to resume flights to the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo next month.
The airline, which terminated its operations to the city in February 2013, citing “commercial reasons”, said the service would be restored from January 19 next year.
The national carrier, which has in recent years undergone a restructuring plan in order to reduce losses, said it will operate five weekly flights to/from Bandaranaike International Airport.
Yahya Ali Buali, Gulf Air director of sales and marketing said: “Gulf Air’s five weekly service between Colombo and Bahrain affords convenient flight timings for travellers with morning and evening flights departing Colombo alongside afternoon and evening flights departing Bahrain – and we anticipate their positive feedback.”
Earlier this year, Gulf Air announced that its annual losses in 2015 fell by almost BD40 million to BD24.1 million ($63.9 million).
Sheikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa, chairman of Gulf Air, said that the airline losses had fallen from BD196 million in 2012 since when the company has been restructuring.
