Dubai Airports announced flights have been cancelled, redirected and journeys delayed due to unsettled weather in the UAE.
In a travel advisory, the airport operator said 13 flights had been cancelled and a further five inbound flights diverted as rain has a serious impact on travel plans.
Emirates, meanwhile, told passengers to expect delays to service and to allow extra time to arrive at DXB airport.
Dubai flights cancelled
In a statement DXB said: “Dubai Airports confirms that due to unsettled weather conditions, five inbound flights were diverted overnight. Additionally, nine arrivals and four outbound flights were cancelled.
“Guests departing from Dubai’s airports are advised to allocate additional time for their journey to the airport, as road congestion may be anticipated.
“We strongly encourage the utilisation of the Dubai Metro to get to DXB Terminals 1 and 3 wherever feasible.
“Ensuring the safety and convenience of our guests remains our top priority, and we are working with airlines and service partners to minimise any inconvenience.”
Emirates said flight movements had been reduced. For passengers looking to rebook flights all rebooking charges are being waived by the airline.
Advising passengers arriving and departing the airport, Emirates said delays were expected and also told people to expect road delays getting into and out of the airport.
Emirates said: “Due to bad weather in Dubai on May 2, flight movements at Dubai Airport have been reduced.
“Customers arriving or departing from Dubai airport on May 2 can expect some delays as flights are rescheduled.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience. Affected customers will be reaccommodated. Those who wish to rebook should contact their travel agent or nearest Emirates Office. All rebooking charges will be waived.
“If you’re travelling to Dubai International airport, you may experience road delays. We recommend adding extra travel time to reach the airport and using Dubai Metro where possible”.
