The Dubai International Airport has been named as the world’s busiest airport in July, handling a capacity of around four million, according to the latest ranking released by global travel data provider OAG.
The world’s busiest airport saw a 28 percent increase in seats compared to last month.
London’s Heathrow came in second, followed by Amsterdam’s airport, Paris’ Charles de Gauller, and Frankfurt International. Seven out of the 10 busiest airports in the world in July were in list pre-pandemic, OAG said, as air travel continues to gain recovery momentum.
Other airports in the list include those of Istanbul, Doha, Gatwick, Madrid, and Singapore.
Dubai Airports earlier said DXB has surpassed 13 million in the first quarter of 2022, with further growth projections of up 58.3 million by the end of the year.
“Many major international route areas – including within Europe, and the Middle East-North America routes – are already exceeding pre-Covid-19 levels. Completely removing all Covid-19 restrictions is the way forward, with Australia being the latest to do so this week,” the international regulator’s director general Willie Walsh said in a statement.
