Work on Dubai’s Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project has now reached 45 percent completion on the first phase, Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced.
The AED 4.8 billion initiative aims to boost traffic flow and safety along a 13km stretch of critical roads in the emirate.
Running between Sheikh Rashid Road and the Falcon Intersection on Al Mina Street, phase four involves constructing three bridges totalling 3.1km in length. These are expected to raise vehicle capacity across the area to 19,400 per hour in all directions.
New Dubai RTA Al Shindagha Corridor Improvement Project to slash travel times to 16 minutes
“The first contract of Phase 4 includes the construction of a 1335-metre-long bridge, with a capacity of three lanes in each direction, to ensure smooth traffic flow between Sheikh Rashid and the Falcon Intersection. The bridge has a capacity of 10,800 vehicles per hour in both directions,” Mattar Al Tayer, Director General, Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said.
A second 780m bridge will serve traffic from the Falcon Intersection to Al Wasl Road, with a 5,400 vehicle per hour capability. The third bridge extends 985m and directs cars from Jumeirah Street to Al Mina Street, accommodating 3,200 per hour.
Additional works involve building 4.8km of new roads, improving intersections, and putting in two pedestrian crossings alongside street lighting and drainage systems.
Once finished, the entire corridor upgrade project – split into five phases – is forecast to slash travel times along the route from 104 minutes currently to just 16 minutes by 2030.
