The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai has finished traffic improvements on Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, including the expansion of Exit 55 leading to Al Rebat Street.

The project, spanning 600 metres, increased the traffic overlap distance and added a new lane, bringing the total to three.

This expansion aims to enhance road network capacity and improve traffic safety in Dubai.

The improvements are expected to increase the exit’s capacity from 3,000 to 4,500 vehicles per hour, a 50 percent rise.

Travel time from Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road to Al Rebat Street towards Business Bay Crossing is projected to decrease from 10 minutes to 4 minutes, a 60 percent reduction.

This project is part of RTA’s 2024 improvement plans, covering 45 locations across Dubai. The authority states these enhancements “support Dubai’s sustainable growth and enhance the happiness and well-being of residents, to rank Dubai the best city to live in.”

The Authority selects roads for improvement based on four criteria: traffic studies, control centres, public suggestions, and field observations by RTA teams.

The authority says it is “committed to the continuous development and improvement of Dubai’s road network and regularly updates traffic solutions.”
