Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) is upgrading its traffic signal control system to the next-generation UTC-UX Fusion.
The new system–which is in line with Dubai’s strategy to become a smart and sustainable city– will be powered by artificial intelligence (AI) and digital twin technology.
The system aims to improve traffic flow and reduce congestion by up to 20 percent, and is expected to be completed by the first half of 2026.
“#RTA is upgrading the traffic signal control system to the next-generation UTC-UX Fusion, powered by AI and digital twin technology, to enhance traffic flow and reduce congestion by up to 20%. The project is expected to be completed by the first half of 2026, making mobility in #Dubai smarter and more seamless. #YourComfortMatters,” the RTA said via an X post.
The upgrade is aimed to enhance traffic management and mobility across Dubai, by improving journey time and traffic mobility at intersections by up to 20 percent.
“By predicting traffic analysis to dynamically optimise signal timings and incorporating digital twin technology to simulate signal adjustments and assess their impact before actual implementation, the system also enables priority-base traffic management and uses data from future road sensors to refine signal timings,” RTA said in the video.
