Flynas, the Riyadh-based Saudi Arabian low-cost airline, recorded a 91 percent increase in passenger numbers to 8.7 million in 2022 and a 45 percent growth in the number of flights to 66,000.
Seat capacity increased by 46 percent and Flynas flew to 16 new destinations and opened 30 new routes. The number of planes in its fleet grew to 43.
Bander Almohanna, CEO and Managing Director of Flynas, commented: “The growth rates recorded by Flynas during 2022 in performance, operations, and localisation programs reflect the company’s commitment to continuing expansion under the slogan ‘We Connect the World to the Kingdom’ and to consolidating its leading position as the best low-cost airline in the Middle East and one of the top 10 airlines in the world of its category.
“The annual results confirm the progress in the company’s strategic plan with receiving eight new Airbus A320neo and joining two Airbus A330 aircraft, which will contribute to serving the pilgrims and Umrah performers as well as expanding to new markets.
“Moreover, the company’s Board of Directors approved raising the booking orders of 250 aircraft (in March this year), in line with the goals of the Saudi Vision 2030, and the civil aviation strategy to reach 330 million passengers, 250 international destinations and 100 million tourists annually.”

Flynas also remains committed to localisation of jobs, qualifying young Saudi talent, and the empowerment of women in the aviation sector. It launched the Future Engineers programme in 2022 to localise aircraft engineering and maintenance jobs. The programme started with 30 Saudi engineers, while 100 Saudi first officer cadet pilots were accepted in the Future Pilots training programme.
The airline was also recognised as one of the four best workplaces in the kingdom for 2022, according to the annual survey by the global organisation Best Places to Work (BPTW).
Among the various accolades that Flynas earned in 2022 included a fifth straight Skytrax International Award for the Best Low-cost Airline in the Middle East. It was also ranked among the Skytrax top 10 low-cost airlines in the world.
