Ride-hailing service app, Yango, has introduced new in-app features designed to help its Muslim drivers keep to prayer times throughout the day. The feature is available to all partners’ drivers in the UAE and will be offered throughout the year.
By enabling the new “Prayer Time” setting mode, drivers will receive a 15-minute reminder before each of the five daily prayer times. Notifications are automatically muted at the start of each scheduled prayer. Drivers can also pause new ride requests to avoid missing potential fares during prayers.
The app shows the direction of the Qibla and displays a two-day prayer schedule based on the driver’s preferred calculation method. Drivers can also easily locate the nearest mosque using the app’s mapping and smart routing features.
“The introduction of the new mode for drivers, permanent beyond the Ramadan period, is a step forward in our ongoing effort to create a more inclusive and supportive environment for partners’ drivers,” stated Islam Abdul Karim, General Manager, Yango GCC.
The new feature aims to enrich work-life balance for drivers by incorporating advanced technology with local customs and practices.
“We are keen to not only enhance their daily experience but also set standards for cultural consideration within the tech industry,” Karim added.
Yango’s Ramadan iftar distribution zones
As an additional Ramadan initiative this year, Yango has set up designated zones near its offices to distribute Iftar meal boxes to drivers on the road during fasting hours.
