Sharjah Airport witnessed a rise of 6 million travellers in the first half of 2022, compared to last year’s number of 2.4 million travellers.
The 142.74 percent rise is the result of “the confidence that customers have in the service and assistance provided by the airport,” it said in a statement.
Between January and June, the airport received over 96,000 tons of cargo compared to 63,844 tons last year – showing a 50.39 percent rise.
The same period also saw an 89.73 percent increase in flight operations with 41,189 aircrafts operating over the last six months, compared to 21,709 aircrafts in 2021.
This data, “solidifies the emirate of Sharjah as a preferred destination for travel and business,” Sharjah Airport Authority chairman Ali Salim Al Midfa said.
“The figures also represent the confidence and trust that a large number of travellers place in Sharjah Airport,” Al Midfa said.
He explained that rise was also due to collaborations with partners, stakeholders, service providers at the airport and the resumption of Air Arabia’s flight operations.

Additionally, the airport will implement various strategies to ensure a seamless travel experience for all.
“As part of our efforts to position Sharjah Airport as one of the best airports in the region, Sharjah Airport Authority is eager to invest in smart services and solutions that meet the highest international standards, in order to attract more foreign airlines, strengthen our strategic alliances, and maintain the steady rise in the number of passengers” Al Midfa said.
In terms of travel rates, a positive growth is anticipated by the airport as travel demands increase during the second half of 2022.
