Dubai’s RTA has set a new record for the number of passengers using public transport in a single day, said Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai and Chairman of The Executive Council.

A total of 2 million people used public transport in the emirate in just one day he said.

Sheikh Hamdan called the RTA’s achievements a remarkable success story and said the city has the best mass transit services in the world.

In a message on Twitter Sheikh Hamdan said: “2 million passengers used Dubai’s public transport in a single day, marking a new record.

“Thank you RTA for delivering the world’s best mass transit services.

“The aerial taxi service set to be launched by 2026 will be a new chapter in this remarkable success story.”

Dubai will have flying air taxis within three years said Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, earlier this month.

Sheikh Mohammed confirmed he has approved the design of air taxi stations in the city and the location of stations planned for the initial phase of operations.

Air Taxis will initially fly from four locations:

  • DXB airport
  • Downtown
  • Palm Jumeirah
  • Marina

“Today, we approved the designs of flying taxi stations in Dubai which will operate within three years,” Sheikh Mohammed tweeted.

In a video shared by Sheikh Mohammed it says the emirate will be the first location in the world with a fully developed network of vertiports (the name given to the stations where flying taxis can take off and land).

The flying taxis will have zero emissions and be able to carry four passengers and a pilot.

The RTA has partnered with international aviation experts Skyports Infrastructure and Joby Aviation to develop the air taxi plans.
